Many of the artefacts included in Lusto’s collection, together with the stories behind them, shed light on everyday labour and reflect the values and importance attached to forests in the course of time. Worn-out work trousers, a pack of cards and a frame saw depict the day-to-day life of a logger, modern measuring devices and laboratory equipment testify to present-day forest research, and birch-bark and wooden artefacts bear witness to Finns’ skills in utilising various raw materials obtained from the forest. The collection ranges from tools, work clothes and equipment to ornamental items, samples of manufactured products and even scale models.

Lusto’s collections were established in 1991 and they are being continuously expanded. At present, the artefact collection contains around 10,000 items. The most significant new collection is comprised of large forestry machines, which the museum has been collecting since 2000.
