Crocheted Chainsaws

A child may be known by many names – and so may a chainsaw. The foreign names of the imported saws were adapted and distorted in all sorts of ways at the lumber camps, and some of these names have inspired the artist and designer Sanna Vatanen to take up her crochet hook and fashion chainsaws that anyone can pick up – especially children. And, of course, she has called them by the traditional names. The exhibition Crocheted Chainsaws has been arranged in honour both of Finland, a country that lives from its forests, and of the hundred-year-old chainsaw. Exhibition at Lusto 28.4.–31.10.2018.
