Me and my Tree

The Me and my Tree exhibition is about Finns’ love of trees. It is compiled from images sent to the Me and my Tree campaign organised by Yle Luonto, Finland’s national public broadcasting company’s nature platform. Me and my Tree 1st December 2018-2nd September 2019.

The purpose of the Me and my Tree campaign was to explore why the forest – and particular trees – mean so much to Finnish people. Trees are like wonderful friends. People become attached to trees, they follow how the trees grow, and trees are always there. Many Finns have a special tree of theirs, and this is a testament to our strong relationship with nature.

The Me and my Tree campaign collected stories and images of the best-loved trees to the Yle Luonto website between 25 August and 7 October 2018. The campaign was open to anybody who wanted to send an image and a story of their tree to Yle Luonto.

Videos were also made of tree stories during the campaign. The videos are available on Yle Areena under Minä ja mun puu.

The campaign was part of the Yle’s Mennään metsään (‘Let’s go to the forest’) project, the aim of which was to celebrate our relationship with the forest. The exhibition has been produced by Yle.
