Lusto events combine forest know-how, traditions and the latest developments in forestry. Workshops, demonstrations and theme days are an integral part of Lusto's operations.
Tar burning 1.-3.7.
Tar and coal burning are demonstrated during the workshop using the barrel method. Various uses for tar, such as traditional healing methods, are also demonstrated. The workshop is located in the museum yard between 10 am and 4 pm. Free admission.
Shingle planing 7. - 9.7.
Shingles were used both for lighting homes during the dark winter months, and for use as roof coverings. Shingles are traditionally made of either Scots pine or Norway spruce wood. The manufacturing of shingles is demonstrated during the workshop, as are the multiple uses of shingles.
The workshops are arranged every hour on the hour in the museum yard between 10 am and 4 pm. Free admission.
Chainsaw sculpting 6. - 10.7., 14. - 19.7., 21. - 26.7.
See expertise chainsaw handling as professional chainsaw sculptors mold wood into animals and various other figures. The workshops are arranged in the museum’s event field between. Free admission.
Bushel week 18. - 26.7.
Experience traditional bushel-handicrafts at Lusto at the end of July. Bushels are small, wooden cases made for storing household goods such as butter. They are made from Finnish tree species, such as black alder and curly-grained birch, and are tied together using birch root. Free admission.
