A new addition to the basic exhibition opened in 2008. Machine Age explores the mechanization of timber harvesting, as well as the development of the lumber industry and forest economics, beginning with the experimentations of the early 20th century and continuing through today’s modern harvesting technologies into visions of the future.
The exhibition displays large forest machines ranging from the world’s first harvesters to today’s models. 120 different models of chainsaws, spanning 90 years, have been gathered in the tower of chainsaws. Visitors can test their skills at maneuvering a forest machine using a simulator.
In addition, the exhibition presents the history of lumber utilization and wood processing. Numerous different forms of wood industry that have already disappeared from Finland, such as machines used in the manufacturing of matches, thread reels, and construction, are also showed.
