The Finnish Forest History Society aims at promoting interest in and research into forest history and tradition. It also supports the documentation and preservation of forest heritage, and tries to increase public awareness in this field. The society wishes to encourage communication between people interested in forest history and provide a forum for forestry professionals, researchers in various fields and other persons involved in forest history. Any individual or society interested in forest history can become a member of the Finnish Forest History Society.
The society arranges study tours and seminars and carries out research projects, often in cooperation with other institutions. The members of the society provide expert assistance for various forest history publications and events.
The Finnish Forest History Society was founded in 1994. Report on the first decennary 1995-2005.
The emblem of the Forest History Society is a ‘susikko’, a loop made by twisting and turning a young spruce and used in log floating for securing booms together. The society’s membership bulletin is also called ‘Susikko’.
